The Hardwood Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) has been a well-kept secret in Guyana, formerly British Guiana, for centuries. Historically, this exotic South American wood was used to create unique fine furniture for Guyana’s first wealthy landowners. Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) is harder than teak, oak and even mahogany. As a result, milling and finishing the beautifully grained wood, was very difficult and labor intensive. The upper class was satisfied with the knowledge that their well-made durable furnishings were in many cases, one of a kind. Now, with today’s sophisticated equipment and advance manufacturing techniques, we can now share this unique quality furniture with you.

Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) has been tested and proven to withstand weather and man’s vigorous misuse and abuse, while still retaining its warm, wonderful appearance. This wood strength seems relentless. Many of the earliest tables and chairs still endure and are passed on as family heirlooms. Our claims of durability are firsthand.

Janka Test
The Janka test is one of the best international measures of the ability of a wood species to withstand denting and wear. It measures the force required to embed a .444 inch steel ball into wood to half its diameter. The higher the number, the harder the wood, thus the more enduring the furniture will be. Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) hardwood species are 135% stronger than teak, surpassing by far this standard option available for most other outdoor furniture lines.
